Temperatures soared into the mid 90s today at the ASU Karsten Golf Course while No. 1 Stanford maintained its lead by seven strokes at the 2010 Pac-10 Men's Golf Championships, hosted by Arizona State University. The Cardinal continues to try and win its first Pac-10 title since 1994. Stanford senior Joseph Bramlett leads the top-ranked Cardinal and ended the third round in second place, making six birdies for the day.
"I played well," Bramlett said. "Aside from the dumb bogey on the last hole, I played solid and didn't make any really bad mistakes, other than the last. I putted the ball really well, so it was good."
Bramlett has shown his consistency on the par-71 course, as he shot a 5-under 66 for the third straight round. He is 17-under 196 for the tournament. The Senior said his team needs to keep on pace with what they've been doing to maintain the lead.
"Basically, we just need to try and do what we did yesterday," Bramlett said. "We played really well yesterday, we played really well in the practice round and we've played this course a lot. We had a game plan and we just need to try and keep going with it."
Sixth-ranked Washington shot 15-under for the third round to move up into second place after starting the day in fourth. The Huskies trail Stanford by seven strokes. They are led by senior Richard Lee who is 3-under 68 on the day and is tied for fifth place.
No. 13 ASU slipped down to third place and trails Washington by six strokes. Junior Jesper Kennegard continues to lead the Devils and hold on to the top spot individually. He had seven birdies and is 17-under 196 for the tournament. Kennegard is trying to become the first Sun Devil to win the Pac-10 individual championship since Paul Casey won the honor in 1998, 1999, and 2000.
The fourth-ranked UCLA Bruins are in fourth place shooting a 21-under 1044. They are followed by No. 10 USC, who went 1-over 356 on the day. No. 2 Oregon is in sixth place with a 9-under 346 for round three and 16-under 1049 on the tournament.1. Stanford -42 2. Washington -35 3. ASU -29 4. UCLA -21 5. USC -20 6 Oregon -16 7.
