Frenchy's Postcards From Omaha- The Final Edition

June 20, 2009

OMAHA, Neb. - We felt pretty good about our chances against a good Texas team. After breakfast we had some down time before lunch, like the other days we spent it going back to sleep or just relaxing. We had lunch at 1 which was the same time the first game was supposed to start. Unfortunately, it was raining in Omaha and the game didn't get underway for 2 1/2 hours. Due to the late start time, we pushed back our departure time to the field. Once we got to the field we were greeted by our usual crowd, which was really nice. We had a lot of time to kill, because the first game was running long. The team relaxed in some shade for a bit. Around the 5th inning of the game we started to stretch, but since there was such a limited amount of space where we were, we were forced to stretch on part of the street outside of the stadium. The most interesting part was that it was slanted, so it was an adventure having to do our movement streches going uphill and downhill. After we got done stretching the hitters took BP in the cages and the pitchers tried to stay out of the sun. Once the other game was over, we got onto the field, got some throwing in and started our in and out. My flyballs to the outfielders, while not perfect, were pretty good! The game got underway and it was a nail bitter. We played a tough game and battled the entire time. When the final home run was hit, my heart sunk. It was the worst feeling I have ever had. Knowing that my college career was over was hard to deal with at the time. It is still a little tough to deal with as I am writing this. We had a great year and a great run through the playoffs. This team was amazingly tough and a great group of guys to be around. I just want to take this time to thank my teammates for a great year with them, it was special. My coaches for giving me an oppurtunity to play here, I learned a lot, it was a great 2 years of my life and I will never forget it. The fans for all the support throughout my 2 years in a Sun Devil uniform, ya'll have been wonderful. And lastly my family for sticking by me through the tough times and the good ones, I love you all. I hate to see it end, but am so proud to be able to call myself an Arizona State Sun Devil!!!
