Last weekend at Colorado's Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Sun Devil Stephan Gross continued a solid run of Sun Devils competing in the Palmer Cup. Gross won both his singles matches as Sun Devils are now 12-0 in head-to-head matches in the 13-match history of the event.
Alejandro Canizares, the 2003 NCAA champion and a four-time All-American, racked up 13 victories in his four years as a Palmer Cup player (2003-06), with an 8-0 mark in singles. Jeff Quinney, the 2000 U.S. Amateur champion, also was 2-0 in singles when he competed in 2001.
Gross, who earned honorable mention All-America honors this year, recorded seven straight birdies to win 3 and 1 over Erik Flores and defeated Steve Ziegler, 5 and 4, on the second day.
The European win evened the series at 6-6-1.
