NORMAN, Okla.- Arizona State sophomore golfer Stephan Gross will become the first ever German to participate in the prestigious Palmer Cup.
The Palmer Cup, presented by Fisher Capital Partners, will be held at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver June 3-5.
Pitting the United State against a slew of European competitors, the Ryder Cup-style competition consists of two teams of eight golfers each.
The United States leads the all-time Palmer Cup series 6-5-1, but Gross and teammates will look to change that trend this summer.
Representing Europe, Gross has already had a considerable amount of success on the international circuit. The Leimen, Germany, native has won the German International Amateur and the European Amateur Championship, and finished second in the Vodafone Challenge.
Gross will be joined by fellow Pac-10 golfer Tim Sluiter of Southern California, among others, on the European squad. Two Americans, from Stanford and Southern California, respectively, round out the west coast outfit.
