No. 12 Women's Tennis Take to the Road to Face No. 41 Washington State and No. 49 Washington

This Week

The 12th-ranked Arizona State Women's Tennis Team (12-4) will

hit the road this weekend, heading to Washington to take on the

Cougars and Huskies of Washington State and Washington.

 

Last time out saw the Sun Devils come out determined as they

fi

nished out their home regular season with their first win over

No. 5 Stanford in 24 years with a gritty 4-3 victory. They faced the

No. 6 Cal Golden Bears to wrap the weekend, but the Bears were

took much as ASU felll 5-2.

 

Stalking the Cougars

The Sun Devils travel up to Pullman this weekend to face the

41st-ranked Washington State Cougars who currently sit on an

11-8 overall record and an 0-3 Pac-10 record. Their big names

include the 55th-ranked Ekaterina Burduli, a senior from Tel Aviv

with a 23-8 overall singles record and a 12-6 duel record. Last

season the Sun Devils shut out the Cougars 7-0 on the Sun Devils

home courts.

The Hounds of Washington

No. 49 Washington enters the weekend with a 10-8 record and

are coming off tough losses to ranked opponents Michigan, Michigan

State and conference foe, Oregon. Making a racket on the

Husky line-up is 40th-ranked Venice Chan who comes in with a

19-7 overall record and 13-5 duel record. Also in the rankings is

No. 119, Tara Simpson with a 19-8 overall and 13-5 duel record

as well. Last season the Sun Devils opened Pac-10 play with a

shut out the Huskies 7-0 on the Sun Devils home courts at Whiteman Tennis Center.

Up Next

The Sun Devils will remain on the road next week, and for the remainder

of their regular season as they face Pac-10 powerhouses UCLA and USC

for Pac-10 standings on Friday, April 11 at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday the

12th at noon. Matches will be held in L.A. and all times are Paci

fic.
