TEMPE, Ariz. - The 13th-ranked Arizona State Women's Tennis Team will hit the road for the first time this season as they travel to the Bay Area to face Pac-10 foes, the 8th-ranked Cal Bears and the 6th-ranked Stanford Cardinal. The Sun Devils will face Cal on Friday, March 7 in Berkeley at 1:30 p.m. and Stanford on Saturday, March 8 in Palo Alto at noon. Both times are Pacific.
Last time out saw the Sun Devils come out swinging as they made quick work of the visiting UC Santa Barbara Gauchos with a definitive 7-0 sweep to give ASU their eighth win on the season.
Bear Tracks:
The eighth-ranked Cal returns a vicious line-up in the 2008 season after going to the 2007 semi
fi nals, which includes a full match of six ranked singles players; #15 Susie Babos, #32 Christina Visico, #47 Marina Coussou, #64 Claire Ilcinkas, #84 Bojana Bobusic and #106 Stephanie Kusano. In doubles, the Bears currently have two teams currently in the rankings (#42 Babos/ Kusano and #46 Ilcinkas/Coussou), both of which are lower than the two ASU ranked doubles teams.
Last year the Bears bested the Sun Devils, topping them three times, twice in the regular season, 4-3 and 7-0 before beating them again in the NCAA Second Round in Berkeley 4-2.
Calling the Cardinal:
The sixth-ranked Stanford Cardinal is only two years from their last NCAA title in 2006, where they advanced to the semi
fi nals before falling to No. 12 UCLA 4-2 for only their second loss on the season. They return seven of the 10 roster members and look strong enough to take it all under a head coach who in eight years has won five national championships and recorded only eight losses in 207 matches.
Last year ASU fell twice to Stanford, 4-3 and 5-2.
Up Next
