Six Sun Devils Named To Pac-10 All-Academic Team

April 25, 2007

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Six Arizona State University gymnasts have been named to the 2007 Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic honorable mention team, announced Commissioner Tom Hansen. This number of six equals the school record of Pac-10 All-Academic honorees, set in 2002.

Senior April Boone, junior Josie Hancock, and sophomores Carrie Finley, Nicole Harris, Ashlee Hinkle and Vanessa Rocca were all named to the Pac-10 honorable mention team. This is Boone's third Pac-10 All-Academic honor as she was named honorable mention in 2005 and made second team in 2006. Boone also received All-Pac-10 honors on the balance beam this past season. She scored the country's lone perfect 10.0 in the event this season.

This is Hancock's second consecutive year being named as an honorable mention of the All-Academic team. Although sidelined due to injury, she contributed to the team by helping at meets and in practice.

Finley, Harris, Hinkle and Rocca's are all being named to the All-Academic team for the first time. Finley stepped up to help on vault after injury lowered the Sun Devil's depth chart. She also competed on floor several times this season.

Harris received All-Pac-10 all-around honors this past season. The returning All-American won two all-around titles this season. She scored her season-high in the all-around at the Pac-10 Championships with a 39.475. The sophomore also set career-highs this season on vault (9.9), beam (9.950) and floor (9.9).

Hinkle primarily started for the Sun Devils on three events. She tied her career-best on vault and beam this season with scores of 9.825 and 9.9 respectively.

Rocca broke into the vault line-up at the beginning of the season after competing in several exhibitions her freshman year. The sophomore also contributed on beam and floor.

The Sun Devils finished the 2007 season ranked 21st. They will return nine gymnasts to next year's squad.
