INDIANAPOLIS - The Arizona State women's gymnastics team has been selected to compete in the South Central Regional Championships held in Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday April 14th at 6:00 p.m. PT announced today by the NCAA. This is the Sun Devils sixth consecutive regional bid.
The Sun Devils will compete against three familiar faces as Pacific-10 Conference rivals No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Oregon State, and host No. 3 Arizona are competing in the South Central Regional. No. 4 Illinois and No. 6 Illinois-Chicago are also making the trip to Tucson.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 26-28, hosted by the University of Utah.
The Sun Devils won the North Central Regional last season in Ames, Iowa. The Sun Devils, led by 27th year head coach John Spini, have made a regional appearance 10 out of the last 12 years.
