TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's gymnastics team ended their 2007 season finishing fifth at the South Central Regional with a score of 194.375, after putting only five student-athletes up on two events. The Sun Devils have been struggling with injuries all season. Stanford won the region with a score of 196.6 followed by Oregon State (196.075), Arizona (196.025), Illinois (194.625), Arizona State (194.375) and Illinois-Chicago (190.925). Nicole Harris was the highest all-around scorer for the Sun Devils with a 39.200, just barely missing making it the NCAA's. April Boone and Cassandra Jusino finished their Sun Devil careers with all-around scores of 38.875 and 38.525 respectively. This is only the second time that Arizona State has not been represented at the NCAA Championships.
Beginning the meet on floor, the Devils finished with a 48.700 after only competing five student-athletes. Boone was the leading Devil with a score of 9.800. Sophomore Tiana Jean and Jusino followed with scores of 9.750. Sophomore Ashlee Hinkle recorded a solid 9.725. Harris tallied a 9.675 on floor.
The Devils moved to vault on the second rotation compiling a score of 48.425. Harris led the team with a 9.800. Coming in behind Harris was Hinkle, who scored a solid 9.750. Jusino followed with a 9.675. Boone and Carrie Finley each tallied pairs of 9.600. Freshman Paris Barnum also made her collegiate debut at the South Central Regional with a score of 9.525.
Taking bars on the third rotation, the Sun Devils again only put five gymnasts up to finish with a team score of 48.725. Harris again led the team in the apparatus with a 9.850. Jusino and Boone each had solid routines scoring 9.775 and 9.750 respectively. Jean and senior Lisa Lanza also hit their routines with scores of 9.700 and 9.650.
The Sun Devils ended the 2007 season on beam, with a team score of 48.525. Harris was again the top scorer for the Sun Devils, performing a beautiful routine to record a 9.875. Jean hit her routine to tie her career-best with a 9.825. Hinkle and Boone also had solid scores of 9.775 and 9.725.
