TEMPE, Ariz. - For the second straight year, the Arizona State University baseball team will celebrate St. Patrick's Day by taking the field in green hats, Head Coach Pat Murphy announced today. The Sun Devils host the Maine Black Bears in a doubleheader at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark on Saturday the 17th, with game one beginning at 1 p.m. The team will wear the green hats in both games.
"The green hats were a tremendous success last year and I'm excited to return the promotion this weekend," said head coach Pat Murphy. "The response from our fans was overwhelmingly positive and our student-athletes are looking forward to wearing the hats again this year."
Players and Coaches will wear kelly green caps with a white interlocking A-S produced by Pro-Line Cap Company. A limited number of green hats will be available for $20 to fans attending Saturday's games at the On Deck Circle table by the main entrance gate.
The limited quantity of hats will only be available at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. In addition to the green hats, the Sun Devils will also wear green socks, and Irish themed-music will be played throughout the afternoon and evening. 14 Major League teams, including eight Cactus League teams, will also wear green hats on Saturday, part of a long-standing Spring Training tradition.
