May 3, 2006

Tempe, Ariz. - The No. 22 Arizona State Sun Devil women's tennis team earned its school-record nineteenth consecutive selection to the NCAA tournament on Wednesday. The streak of nineteen selections stands as not only the longest active streak in the school, but the most consecutive team selections for any sport in the history of Arizona State.

The Arizona State Sun Devils (13-8) will face the No. 32 Texas A&M Aggies on May 12 at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. The winner of the match will advance to the round of 32 on May 13 against winner of Texas Southern and host fifth-seeded Baylor. The regional winner will advance to the championship rounds hosted by Stanford on May 18-22.

Head coach Sheila McInerney will be guiding the Devils to her 21st NCAA appearance in her 22 seasons at the school. She has guided ASU to a quarterfinal finish in the Elite 8 on eight occasions and has reached the Sweet 16 in 18 of those 21 appearances.
