, - Katie Burkhart pitched five hitless innings Saturday as the No. 7 Sun Devil Softball team wrapped up their regular season with a 1-0 win over the Oregon Ducks (24-29, 4-17 Pac-10) to sweep the series from the Ducks and push their record to 47-13 on the season and 11-10 in conference play. Today's game set a new ASU all-time wins record, breaking the record of 46 from 2002.
Katie Burkhart went to work on keeping Ducks quiet as struck out eight in five innings before Desiree Serrano came in to take the save, while Alica Cook got the starting nod for the Ducks going six innings and allowing only four hits on the day.
Mindy Cowles was a perfect 3-3 on the day and scored the only run of the game after her lead-off single to the left side in the bottom of the second was brought around by a sac bunt by Bianca Cruz and a ground out from Heidi Knabe with Cowles finally being plated on a passed ball to take the lead 1-0.
The Sun Devils shut down the Ducks on offense for the rest of the game to roll on to a 1-0 win to wrap up their regular season with a 47-13 record and an 11-10 conference record.
Up next, ASU will now wait and see if they gain a bid into postseason play when 64-team field is announced on Sunday between 12:30-1:00 p.m. The team will hold its Selection Sunday viewing party at Jilly's in starting at 11:30 a.m. The Sun Devil Softball team invites all fans and friends to join them.
