TEMPE, Ariz. - Three former members of the Arizona State University soccer program will be heading to international matches in the coming days with Amy LePeilbet heading to Japan with the U.S. Women's National Team while recent seniors Elizabeth Bogus and Manya Makoski will head to Europe with the U.S. Under 21 National Team.
LePeilbet and the full American side will face Japan on May 7 in Kumamoto before closing out the weekend trip with a match on May 9 in Osaka. Bogus, Makoski and the U-21 squad will first head to Holland where they play Saturday (April 29) against Club Seastum in Tiel before meeting the Dutch U-21 team in Tiel on May 2. The trip concludes on May 4 when the Americans face Bundesliga squad Duisburg in Duisburg, Germany.
LePeilbet, who has accumulated 16 career caps (appearances) in international play for the U.S., has been a defensive standout for the Americans this past year and she helped the home side to a streak of 10 matches in a row in 2005 of not allowing a goal. She is one of the most decorated players in Arizona State history as she helped the Sun Devils to the second round of the NCAA tournament as a senior. A three-time First-Team All-Pac-10 selection, she did not miss a start in her four-years at ASU, playing in 74 career games. She also was a two-time Academic All-American and a NSCAA Second-Team All-American as a senior.
Makoski was a four-year starter for the Sun Devil soccer team and made her mark not only on the program but the conference. She was named All-Pac-10 Conference four times, earning first team honors as a junior and second team honors three times. On the national scene, she was twice selected to the Soccer Buzz All-West Region team, earning first team in 2004 and second team in 2002. She also was a finalist for the Soccer Buzz National Freshman of the Year award after earning Freshman All-America honors from Soccer America. In her career, she ranks second all-time at ASU with 22 assists and prowess for finding the back of the net ranks her fifth all-time in goals scored with 24 and third in game-winning goals with nine. She also ranks fifth with 70 career points, making her just the fifth player to reach the 70-point plateau in a career at ASU. On the season lists, she ranks fifth in game-winning goals scored in a season with three in 2004 while her nine assists as a freshman ranks as the most in a single-season by a Sun Devil player.
Bogus, also a four-year starter for the Sun Devils, accumulated four All-Pac-10 honors, including first team selections in both 2005 and 2002 while also earning honorable mention in 2003 and second team in 2004. She got her career off to a flying start by being named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and was selected as a Freshman All-American by Soccer America and was second team Freshman All-America by Soccer Buzz. One of the top offensive weapons in the history of the program, Bogus, who also was a finalist for the 2002 National Freshman of the Year by Soccer Buzz, ranks second all-time in ASU history with 80 career points, second in goals scored with 31, second in game winning goals with 12 and third in career assists with 18. On the season lists, she closed out her career with senior totals of 28 points (fifth-most in a season), 11 goals (fifth) and six assists (tied for eighth).
