TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Former Arizona State University wide receiver Derek Hagan (Palmdale, Calif.) is an All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year, announced the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The award recognizes the student-athlete's dedication to strength training and conditioning. The NSCA honored 242 collegiate athletes from 160 schools with the award this year.
Nominated by ASU strength coach Joe Kenn, Hagan is a four-time letterwinner for Sun Devil football. In 2005, Hagan became the Pac-10's all-time leader in career receptions hauling in 258. He also finished second in conference history tallying 3,939 career receiving yards. Following his junior and senior seasons, Hagan was a semi-finalist for the Biletnikoff Award given to the nation's top collegiate wide receiver. Hagan also earned All-American honors three times and All-Pac-10 honors twice.
In 2005, Hagan started all 12 games for the Sun Devils recording 77 receptions for 1,210 yards. It marked the second year in a row that Hagan averaged over 100 receiving yards per game. He also averaged 15.7 yards per reception and scored eight touchdowns for the Sun Devils in 2005.
