Baseball To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day By Wearing Green Hats Friday

March 16, 2006

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University baseball team will celebrate St. Patrick's Day on Friday, March 17th by taking the field in green hats, Head Coach Pat Murphy announced today. The Sun Devils host the Oklahoma Sooners at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark at 7:00 PM.

"The green hats will be a great promotion for our players and fans," said Coach Murphy. "For years, we've seen various Major League teams wearing a green hat on St. Patrick's Day. It worked out this year where we play on March 17, so we decided to do the same."

The Sun Devils will join 12 Major League Baseball teams wearing green hats on Friday, including the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants.

Players and Coaches will wear kelly green caps with a white interlocking A-S produced by Pro-Line Cap Company. A limited number of additional green hats will be available to fans attending Friday's game, for a $20 donation to the Sun Angel Foundation/On-Deck Circle.

"I'm excited that our fans will have the opportunity to join in the festivities," added Murphy.

The limited quantity of hats will only be available at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark on Friday night. In addition to the green hats, Irish music will be played in between innings. Arizona State plays the first of three games against the Oklahoma Sooners that night.
