The Arizona State University gymnastics team finished fifth at the South Central Regional at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Nebraska Saturday, scoring 194.5, thus ending the 2005 season. Michigan won the event with a 196.6, followed by host Nebraska (196.3), Missouri (195.1), Arizona (194.7), ASU and Illinois (193.85). The top two teams (Michigan and Nebraska) in each region advance to the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Alabama April 21-23.
Sun Devil sophomore April Boone capped her best meet at ASU by finishing sixth in the all-around competition with a 38.975. She tied for sixth on the balance beam (9.8). She qualified for the NCAA Championships April 21-23 in Auburn, Alabama. Teammate Ashley Kelly was ninth (38.7) in the all-around while Lauren Powell was 10th (38.65.
Kelly and Powell tied for seventh on the uneven parallel bars at 9.85. Sophomore Cassandra Jusino was ASU's high finisher on the floor exercise, placing in a tie for fifth (9.875).
The Sun Devils were making their third NCAA Regional appearance in a row and the 20th in 25 seasons for head coach John Spini.
