Women's Tennis Shut Out the Cougars of Washington State, 7-0

April 8, 2005

Tempe, AZ - The Arizona State Women's Tennis Team kept their streak and momentum going Friday afternoon with a sweep of the Cougars of Washington State University.

The Cougars were unable to gain an inch on the Devils as ASU took every match on the day.

In doubles play, the Devils were started off by an 8-1 win from the Devil duo of Joslynn Burkett and Rebecca Rankin who faced WSU's Aleksandra Stefanova and Amy Toth.

They were followed by their teammates, as the 21st-ranked team of Lauren Colalillo and Kady Pooler took down Orsolya Sallai and Chris Martinez 8-1.

The Devils proved to be equally strong in singles play as all six matches were swept by the Devils in straight sets.

Senior Lauren Colalillo defeated WSU's Amy Toth 6-1, 6-1 sparking her fellow Devils to follow her lead.

Sophomore Rebecca Rankin was right behind her with a solid 6-2, 6-0 win over Aleksandra Stefanova.

The Devils improve to 8-7 on the season and 3-3 in the Pac-10 as the Cougars fall to 9-11 and 0-5 in Pac-10 play.

The Devils will hope to continue their winning streak tomorrow afternoon where they are set to face the 21st-ranked Huskies of the University of Washington.

The match is set to kick off at noon at Tempe's Whiteman Tennis Center and will count towards Pac-10 standings.
