TEMPE, Ariz. - Aaron Aguayo, a member of the Arizona State University track and field team, was selected as the Pac-10 Male Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The honor is the first for Aguayo and the second award for a Sun Devil student-athlete this season as Trevell Quinley was the April 11 Pac-10 Male Field Athlete of the Week.
Aguayo was selected for the weekley honor after his time of 13:49.11 broke at 15 year-old school record in the men's 5,000m run. His time makes him the first Sun Devil to run 13:51 or faster, bettering the previous school record of 13:51.40 set by Todd Lewis in 1990.
The remaining athletes to earn weekly honors from the Pac-10 this week were Andy Young (field, decathlon), Ashley Lodree of Washington (track, 400m hurdles/4x400m relay) and Jessica Crosby of UCLA (field, shot put/hammer).
Aguayo and the Sun Devils return to the home track for the final time in 2005 as they are set to host intrastate rivals Arizona and Northern Arizona for the annual Double Dual on Saturday. The field events open at 2 p.m. while the running events get underway at 7 p.m. on Joe Selleh Track at Sun Angel Stadium.
