Tempe, AZ - The Arizona State Tennis program almost came up with another upset of a ranked opponent on Monday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center where the Devils were just barely unable to defeat the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils.
The day started off well for the Devils as they were able to take the doubles point from the Blue Devils with wins from the Sun Devil duos of Lauren Colalillo and Kady Pooler and Jessica Leitch and Sabrina Capannolo.
Singles proved to be where the Blue Devils stepped up, as the match came down to the deciding match of ASU's Sabrina Capannolo versus the 35th-ranked Katie Blaszak.
Capannolo lost the first set, but rallied back to win the second and push the match into three sets, where Blaszak proved to be too much for the Sun Devil as she won the last set 6-3.
The Sun Devils fall to 4-4 on the season while the Blue Devils improve to 8-3.
The Devils will have a couple days rest before they return to action against Minnesota (5-5) on Thursday, March 17th.
The match is set to be played at Tempe's Whiteman Tennis Center with a start time of 12:00 p.m.
