Pedroia And Zinicola Earn All-America Honors From Collegiate Baseball

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Arizona State junior shortstop Dustin Pedroia has been named a second-team Louisville Slugger All-American and freshman two-way player Zechry Zinicola has been named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Pedroia (Woodland, Calif.) hit .393 (96-for-244) with 24 doubles, nine home runs and 49 RBI. The Golden Spikes Award Finalist was selected in the second round of the MLB Amateur Draft and ended his career ranked seventh in the ASU record books with a .384 career batting average. Pedroia hit safely in 48 of ASU's 59 games and recorded 30 multi-hit games. He started all 185 games of his Sun Devil career and ranks fourth with 298 hits and 71 doubles.

Zinicola (San Bernadino, Calif.) extended a streak that has seen at lest one Sun Devil earn freshman All-America honors in the last 10 years. Zinicola played a big part in ASU's 41-18 season as a pitcher and designated hitter. He made his biggest contribution on the mound, going 4-2 with a team-leading 3.36 ERA. He tied the ASU freshman record with eight saves and struck out 57 batters in 56.1 innings. He was dominant late in the season, recording two wins and seven saves in his last 14 relief appearances (2.08 ERA, 26.0 IP). Zinicola also batted .280 (28-for-100) with eight doubles, three home runs and 26 RBI while starting 23 games at designated hitter and two at first base.
