The Arizona State men's golf team is tied for third and just three shots out of the lead after the first round of the 2004 NCAA Division I West Regional held at Sunriver, Ore.
ASU shot a 2-under 286 and is three shots behind leader UCLA (283) and two shots behind second-place New Mexico (284). Washington and UC Riverside are tied for 10th at 5-over 293, which is the cut line for the 27 teams, as the top 10 teams advance to the NCAA Championships June 1-4 in Hot Springs, Va.
Individually, sophomore Alejandro Canizares and junior Jesse Mueller both shot a 2-under 70 to lead ASU, and are tied for eighth.
Both Chez Reavie and Mike Dermino shot a 1-over 73 and are tied for 40th while Niklas Lemke shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 50th. There are 141 players competing in the Regional Championship.
