Women's Tennis Takes Down the Cougars of Washington State, 6-1

Tempe, AZ - The Arizona State Women's Tennis Team added another stellar win to their season and boosted their Pac-10 standings record with a decisive 6-1 win over the Cougars of Washington State University.

The day started off well for the Sun Devils as they swept doubles starting with Joslynn Burkett and Rebecca Rankin coming in with a quick 8-2 win over WSU's Nora Gaal and Zorana Roganovic.

The other two duos for the Devils came in with two tough 9-7 wins to take the doubles point.

The day continued well for the Devils as they stepped up to take five of six of the singles matches.

Sole senior Cindy Sureephong came in with a solid 6-3, 6-3 score versus Nora Gaal, and freshman Kady Pooler came in right behind with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Nelly Dvornicka.

Almost all their fellow Devils followed suit with only freshman Sabrina Capannolo falling in a tough 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(5) match versus the Cougars' Amy Toth.

The Devils move to 6-10 on the season and 1-3 in Pac-10 play.

ASU will return to action Sunday morning in a make-up match versus Washington, which was cancelled due to rain Friday afternoon.

The match is set to start at 11:00 a.m. at Tempe's Whiteman Tennis Center and will count towards Pac-10 standings.
