Arizona State Sophomore Ashley Kelly and Oregon State Freshman Chelsea Plourde have been named the Pacific-10 Conference Co-Gymnasts of the week for March 1-8, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Arizona State University posted a school-record score of 198.45 in defeating Eastern Michigan, 198.45-194.875 Friday in Tempe as Kelly scored a 39.800 and won her fourth all-around title in a row. Kelly, who now has won nine all-around titles in just under two short years as a Sun Devil, will try to tie the school record of five all-around titles in a row this Friday in a meet versus Minnesota. Kelly placed first in three events, including a 10.00 on the balance beam, a 9.95 in the vault and tied for first with a 9.925 on the uneven bars. She also tied for fifth on the floor exercise with a 9.925. Kelly's 10.00 on the beam was the first of her career and the fifth overall of her career. Kelly's performance contributed to ASU's 198.45, shattering the old school record of 198.275 set last year. The Sun Devils take on Minnesota at home Friday before heading into the Pac-10 Tournament.
