Men's Golf Wins Third Tournament Of The Year

March 30, 2004

The Arizona State men's golf team held off host Arizona and claimed its third team title of the year by shooting an 8-under 856 (279-287-290), taking home 2004 National Invitational Tournament honors.

The event, held at the Omni National Golf Course in Tucson, was an 11-team field including four Pac-10 schools and six other national contenders including Oklahoma State and Minnesota.

Senior Chez Reavie shot a 3-under 213 (72-70-71) and tied for ninth while Jesse Mueller finished at 2-under 214 (69-70-73) and was 11th.

Sun Devil Alejandro Canizares, the defending NCAA champion who also won the 2003 National Invitational Tournament, finished tied for 26th with a 3-over 219 (69-73-77).

Arizona State also won the Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque in September and won the Las Vegas Collegiate Championship in mid-March. It marks the most tournament wins by a Sun Devil team since the 2000-2001 team also won three.

Arizona State plays host to the Thunderbird/Ping Invitational on April 9-10 at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe. The Sun Devils have won their tournament four of the past five years.
