FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- By claiming the 3-meter title on Friday at the Pac-10 Diving Championships, Arizona State sophomore diver Joona Puhakka swept both springboard events at the conference meet for the second year running. The feat, unprecedented in ASU history, was achieved with a remarkable final round score on the 3m of 674.75, beating his own school record by almost 25 points and his nearest competitor by nearly one-hundred points.
Also competing in the final round for the men was junior Gordon Blukis who finished seventh (497.80). Junior Thomas McCrummen placed 10th (463.25) and sophomore Brant Bingham placed 15th (396.05) to also earn points for ASU.
On the women's side, junior Trisha Tumlinson, who yesterday won the Pac-10 3-meter title, finished fourth on the 1-meter with a score of 278.90. Senior Jessica Stenson also made the finals where she placed eighth after registering a 244.50.
Also competing for the women were freshman Cassidy Farwell (209.55) who finished 14th and junior Nicole Zukowski (162.20) who finished 23rd.
The 2004 Pac-10 Diving Championships conclude tomorrow with the 10-meter platform.
