TEMPE, Ariz. - Led by two first-team selections, three Arizona State University softball players were named to the Pac-10 All-Academic teams, announced Thursday by Commissioner Tom Hansen. Seniors Kara Brun and Adriana Garcia earned first team honors while Jennifer Forner claimed second team accolades. To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.00 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant substitute.
Brun, a senior shortstop from Glendale, Arizona, makes her third appearance on the Pac-10 All-Academic first team. She is also a two-time Academic All-American selection and holds a 3.33 grade-point average in communications. In addition, Brun started in every game during her four-year career (243) and is Arizona State's all-time leader in home runs (34), doubles (50) and RBIs (165). This past season, Brun batted .392 with 67 hits and 13 doubles, all team-highs.
Garcia, a senior catcher from Riverside, California, earns her first honor on the Pac-10 All-Academic first team. Garcia, who carries a 3.50 GPA in elementary education, was also an Academic All-American selection this year and is a two-time Maroon and Gold Scholar Athlete. Garcia had her best year on the field as well, starting all 57 games with a .285 average. She slugged eight home runs and batted in 32 runs (both third-highest on the team), while throwing out 14 runners and posting a career-high .994 fielding percentage.
Forner, a four-year outfielder from Walnut Creek, California, earns her third selection to the Pac-10 All-Academic team after posting a 3.19 GPA in kinesiology. Forner finished her career playing in 219 games with 109 hits and 12 doubles. She is also the past President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
