TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State women's tennis player Adria Engel has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region's Senior Player of the Year, announced by the ITA. The award caps off an honor filled four-year career for Engel.
The four-time All-American and three-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, ended her career at ASU as the all-time leader in wins (132) and became the school's second four-time All-American selection in singles. She was also the only player (male/female) in ASU history to win the Pac-10 singles championship.
Earlier in the year, Engel was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Player of the Month for April after going 8-1 and recording wins over the No. 4, 5 and 6 ranked players in the nation (during an eight-day stretch). Engel finished her senior season ranked No. 6 in the country with a 29-11 overall mark, averaging an amazing 33 wins a season during her four-year career.
