O'Neal Fourth, ASU Fifth at Pac-10 Championships

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Led by senior Blair O'Neal, the Arizona State women's golf team finished fifth at the 2003 Pac-10 Conference Championships, held April 24-26 at the par 72, 6,160-yard Trysting Tree Country Club.

The Sun Devils shot a 22-over 310 on Saturday to finish fifth with a three-round total of 915 (301-304-310). California won its first Pac-10 women's golf championship with a five-stroke victory over Arizona, finishing with a three-round total of 28-over 892. The Wildcats, who had won the Pac-10 title in each of the previous three years, were second at 897 followed by UCLA (902) and USC (903).

After leading the tournament by one stroke heading into Saturday's final round, O'Neal finished fourth with a three-day total of four-over 220 (73-69-78). She carded a six-over 78 in the final round to finish four strokes behind California's Vikki Laing who won individual medalist honors with an even-par 216.

Other Sun Devils included senior Ga?lle Truet who tied for 14th with a three-round total of 227 (75-78-74) and freshman Alissa Kuczka who ended up in a tie for 36th at 236 (76-80-80). Sophomore Erin Tone tied for 45th with a three-day total of 241 (85-77-79), while senior Melanie Hunt finished 50th (77-87-79=243). Freshman Meredith Jones, who played in the tournament as an individual, finished in a tie for 45th with a three-round total of 241 (82-81-78).

Arizona State returns home to play host to the NCAA West Regional May 8-10 at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe. Bids to the NCAA West Regional will be announced on Monday, April 28, while the top eight finishers from each of the three NCAA Regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships May 20-23 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.
