Tempe, AZ- The No. 16 Arizona State Women's Tennis Team stepped up to face the No. 4 Cal Golden Bears on Friday afternoon, but to no avail, as the Devils fell 5-2.
It was a tough match overall for the Devils as they had to play without No. 54-ranked Dora Krstulovic, as she was pulled from competition.
The day seemed to start well for the Devils as they took off with Cindy Sureephong and Lauren Colalillo teamed up to take a doubles match 9-8(5) against Cal's Jieun Jacobs and Jody Scheldt.
The rest of the day did not prove to be as successful for the Devils, as they lost the doubles point and 4 out of 6 singles matches.
The bright points of the match came when Cindy Sureephong stepped up to give Cal's Jieun Jacobs a 6-2, 6-2 loss.
The best match of the day, however was the No. 11 ranked Adria Engel versus the No. 7 seed Raquel Kops-Jones.
Kops-Jones snagged the lead early winning the first set 6-1, but Engel seemed to just be warming up as she dug in and plowed through the next two sets winning both, and taking the victory.
Up next the Devils will face-off against No. 1 Stanford (15-1, 3-0 Pac-10) Saturday afternoon at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center at noon, the match will count towards Pac-10 standings.
