Women's Golf Climbs to Fourth at Pac-10 Championship

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The 10th-ranked Arizona State women's golf team climbed two spots to fourth place after Tuesday's second round at the 2002 Pac-10 Championships, being held April 22-24 at the par 72, 6,199-yard Walla Walla Country Club.

The Sun Devils shot a 12-over par 301 Tuesday to climb from sixth to fourth heading into Wednesday's final round. ASU is just one stroke behind third-place USC (605) and just nine strokes off the lead of Arizona (597). UCLA (600) is in second followed by USC, ASU and California (607).

Individually for the Sun Devils, sophomore Jimin Kang is tied for fourth with a two-round total of two-over 146 after carding a 74 on Tuesday (72-74). Kang trails the individual leader, UCLA's Yvonne Choe, by three strokes after Choe shot an even-par 72 Tuesday for a two-day total of one-under 143.

Freshman Erin Tone had the best day of any Sun Devil on Tuesday, carding a one-over 73 to move into a tie for eighth place with a two-day total of 150 (77-73). Junior Blair O'Neal is tied for 29th at 157 (77-80), while junior Melanie Hunt rebounded from an 84 in the first round with a two-over 74 on Tuesday to move into a tie for 32nd (84-74=158). Junior Ga?lle Truet is tied for 37th with a two-day total of 160, while ASU individual Josefin Gustafsson is tied for 48th with a two-round total of 165 (81-84).

The 2002 Pac-10 Championships conclude Wednesday with tee times in the final round starting at 9 a.m. Live scoring for the 2002 Pac-10 Championships will be available on the Washington State University web site (www.wsucougars.com) and the Golfstat web site (www.golfstat.com).
