WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The 10th-ranked Arizona State women's golf team stands in sixth place after shooting a 17-over par 305 in Monday's first round at the 2002 Pac-10 Championships, being held April 22-24 at the par 72, 6,199-yard Walla Walla Country Club.
The Sun Devils are 12 strokes off the lead of Arizona which carded a five-over 293 on Monday. USC stands four strokes behind the Wildcats with a nine-over 297 in the first round, while California (299), Stanford (300) and UCLA (301) round out the top five.
Individually for the Sun Devils, sophomore Jimin Kang is tied for third after carding an even-par 72 on Monday. Kang is just one stroke off the individual lead held by UCLA's Yvonne Choe and USC's Mikaela Parmlid who each shot one-under 71s.
Freshman Erin Tone and junior Blair O'Neal are each tied for 25th with five-over 77s on Monday, while junior Ga?lle Truet is tied for 32nd after shooting a 79 in the first round. Junior Melanie Hunt is tied for 48th (84), while ASU's individual, Josefin Gustafsson carded an 81 and is tied for 40th.
The 2002 Pac-10 Championships continue Tuesday with tee times starting at 9 a.m., while Wednesday's final round tees off at 9 a.m.
