TEMPE, Ariz. - The ASU Diving squad will officially begin their dual season this Saturday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. against the University of New Mexico. The Lobos are bringing three female divers to the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center to compete against the Sun Devils. This marks the regular-season debut of ASU sophomore transfer Trisha Tumlinson, a highly accomplished diver who was the 2001 Senior National Champion on the platform and is coming off of a honorable mention All-American season at Kentucky.
"This Saturday will be pretty much like the intrasquad meet last Friday but our divers get a chance to work on platform this week," says Sun Devils head diving coach Mark Bradshaw. The format against New Mexico calls for each diver to compete from the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform.
Also on Saturday at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center will be the annual ASU swimming pentathlon and alumni meet, which is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. Several Sun Devil swimming alumni will be on hand to compete with the 2002-2003 squad in several events.
The pentathlon format calls for each swimmer to swim five events: the 100 fly, the 100 back, the 100 breast, the 100 free and the 200 IM. The swimmer with the lowest combined five-event time is declared the meet winner.
The entire swimming and diving squad will be in action at home on Friday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m. to get the season fully underway. The Sun Devil men will compete against UNLV while the women face UNLV and Northern Arizona.
