June 4, 2001

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State University head baseball coach Pat Murphy will address the media Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. at Packard Stadium regarding his coaching future with the Sun Devils and the possibility of him accepting the head coaching position at the University of Hawai'i.

Murphy, who has a 269-143-1 career record in seven seasons at Arizona State and has led the Devils to postseason play in four of the past five years, will discuss his coaching future in an informal press gathering on the infield at Packard Stadium. Murphy came to Arizona State in 1995 after turning the Notre Dame program from a virtual unknown into a national power.

The 2001 Sun Devils placed third in the Pac-10 with a 14-10 record and were 37-20-1 overall, being eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Murphy was named the 2000 Pac-10 Coach of the Year after leading ASU to the Pac-10 Championship in 2000 and was the 1998 Baseball America Coach of the Year after leading the Devils to the College World Series title game.
