Men's Golfer Jeff Quinney Wins Rolex Player Of The Month

April 5, 2001

Arizona State University senior Jeff Quinney (Eugene, Oregon) has been named the Rolex College Golfer of the Month after winning the individual title at a Rolex Collegiate Tour event in early March. Quinney, the 2000 U.S. Amateur Champion, is competing at The Masters in Augusta, Georgia this week. He is paired with Vijay Singh, the tournament's defending champion, and Loren Roberts for the first two rounds at the Augusta National Golf Club.

Quinney won the individual medalist honors at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate on March 11, his first Rolex Collegiate Tour win of the season. He fired a 13-under par 203 (69-67-67) - winning by seven shots - while leading Arizona State to a sixth place finish. He also tied for ninth place at the Cleveland Golf/Southwestern Invitational, where he shot 76-71 (147, +5) while helping to lead the Sun Devils to the team title. Quinney was named the Golf World Collegiate Player of the Week, for the week ending March 16th. Ranked No. 11 in the April 4th edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, Quinney compiled a stroke average of 70.00 for the month (five rounds).

The finance major's final home event will be next weekend when ASU hosts the Thunderbird/SAVANE Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 13-14.

The Rolex College Golfer of the Month award is voted on by members of the College Golf Foundation's Golfer of the Month Committee. The award is based primarily on results from Rolex Collegiate Tour events, plus conference championships, NCAA Regionals and the NCAA Championships. Each winner will receive a certificate from the College Golf Foundation in recognition of this honor.
