Adria Engel Wins Pac-10 Women's Singles Title

TEMPE, Ariz -- Arizona State women's tennis player Adria Engel claimed the schools first Pac-10 singles tennis title (men's or women's) today in Ojai, California as she defeated California's Raquel Kops-Jones in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.

Engel, only a sophomore, dropped only two sets in the entire tournament as she defeated five opponents from four different Pac-10 schools, including defending Pac-10 champion Sara Walker of UCLA in the semifinals.

Engel, currently ranked eighth in the country, also holds the schools highest individual ranking ever. Engle has now won 14 of her last 15 matches and leads the Arizona State team with a 26-7 overall record.

Engel and the rest of the 10th-ranked Arizona State team will now wait to see if they will host a first and second round regional. Announcements for the NCAA regionals will be made on Thursday, May 3 at 2:30 p.m.
