Tenth-Ranked Women's Tennis Wraps Up Second Day At Pac-10 Championships

TEMPE, Ariz. - Top-seeded Adria Engel notched another win today at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, California, to advance to tomorrow's semifinals.

Engel, who finished the dual season ranked No. 8 nationally, defeated Cal's Christina Fusano in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, to advance to tomorrow's semifinals against UCLA's Sara Walker. Yesterday, ASU's Celena McCoury fell in the Round of 16 to Cal's Catherine Lynch, 6-2, 6-2 (late results).

In Pac-10 doubles Championship play, Adria Engel and Faye DeVera teamed up for an 8-4 victory over USC's Jewel Peterson and Tiffany Brymer, while ASU's Celena McCoury/Mhairi Brown tandem downed Stanford's Emilia Anderson and Sara Pestieau, 9-7. Both will advance to tomorrow's quarterfinals. Unfortunately, ASU's Cindy Sureephong and Megan Yeats fell in doubles play to Mariko Fritz-Krockow and Sara Walker of UCLA, 8-4. In Invitational doubles play, ASU's Jennifer Baker teamed up with Washington State's Zorana Roganovic, but fell to USC's Bernadette Bayani/Maureen Diaz combo by default.
