MICKY BENEDETTI/MEN'S DIVING (2006-09)/// Inducted 2024
Micky Benedetti comes from Rome, Italy, and he's an 8-time All-American and a 6-time Pac-10 champion. In 2008, he became the first Sun Devil and the eighth diver in Pac-10 history to sweep the diving events (1m Springboard, 3m Springboard & Platform), and he remains the only Sun Devil to do so to this day. He was named Pac-10 Diver of the Year in back-to-back years in 2007 and 2008 and finished runner-up at NCAA Championships. In 2008, he set the then-school record and Pac-10 in platform diving (434.17). In 2009, he set another school record in 3-meter springboard diving with a score of 455.50, a record that still stands today. After graduating from ASU, he was selected to represent Italy at the 2012 London Olympics in 3m Springboard diving. He becomes the sixth diver in Sun Devil history to be inducted into the Sun Devil Hall of Fame.

Patsy Willard Heckel
Diving / 1960-1964

As a member of the 1960 and 1964 U.S. Olympic Teams, she placed fourth in springboard diving at the 1960 Olympics, third in 1964. Heckel won eight National Championships on the one and three meter platform boards. She was All-American in 1960-1964. 

Joona Puhakka
Diving / 2002-05 / Inducted 2015

Joona Puhakka was a four-time NCAA Diving Champion, including twice on the one-meter in 2003 and 2005, and twice on three-meter in 2004 and 2005 with the six-dive format. He became the first male student-athlete in the history of the program to win two national championships in a career when he won the NCAA title on the 3-meter springboard. He was the 2005 NCAA Diver of the Year and owns four of ASU's six diving records. His ASU career also includes eight Pac-10 Championship titles and three Pac-12 Diver of the Year awards. Puhakka finished third in the 1-meter springboard at both the European Championships in 2000 and Junior World Championships in 2000, and also placed third on the 1-meter springboard at the 2003 World Championships to earn the bronze medal. He was the gold medalist on the 1-meter springboard at the 2004 European Championships in Madrid, Spain, and also captured Silver on the 3-meter springboard at the 2004 European Championships. He was the European champion on 1-meter in 2006 and competed for Finland at the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympics. He was a nine-time NCAA All-American.

Keith Russell
Diving / 1967-1968

Russell won the NCAA three-meter championship in 1968 with 494.55 points and also won third in the one-meter event, winning All-America honors twice. He won the National AAU three-meter and 10-meter platform championships in 1968 and again in 1974, and was a member of our 1968 Olympic team.

Ann Peterson Scheer
Diving / 1966-1968

A platform diving expert, she finished third in the competition at the 1967 Pan American Games, then placed third in the same event at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. She was the national collegiate three-meter board champion and indoor national champion in 1967. She made All-America diving teams in 1967 and 1968.

Bernie Wrightson
Diving / 1962-1966

Wrightson was the first ASU athlete to win the NCAA and Olympic Games gold medal in diving. He was the NCAA three-meter board champion in 1966. He was also the Olympic gold medal springboard champion in 1968.
