PRINCETON, N.J. - The Arizona State men's golf team finished the season as the 10th-ranked team in the final edition of the Division I men's MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. The MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, which are administered by the College Golf Foundation and compiled by Golfstat in cooperation with the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), are determined by a computerized system based strictly on performance during the 1999-2000 collegiate golf season.
The MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, the official rankings of the Rolex Collegiate Tour, were released a total of 19 times throughout the 1999-2000 college golf season. This is the final edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings for the 1999-2000 college golf season. The next edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings will be the preseason edition for the 2000-2001 season, which will be released in late August or early September.
ASU's Paul Casey, a first-team All-American, finished the season ranked 11th and was the highest-ranked Pac-10 player. He has won six tournaments in his three-year career and finished the season with a 69.87 stroke average, which broke Phil Mickelson's ASU record of 69.95 set in 1991-92.
Charles Howell of Oklahoma State, who won the individual medalist honors at the NCAA Championship in record fashion, is ranked second. Howell's final score of 23-under par 265 broke the NCAA record of 17-under par set by North Carolina's John Inman in 1984 and tied by Mickelson (1992), Texas' Justin Leonard (1994) and Minnesota's James McLean (1998).
The CGF, a non-profit organization founded in the spring of 1995 with the corporate support of Rolex Watch U.S.A., and also sustained by an alliance with MasterCard International, is dedicated to the growth and promotion of men's and women's collegiate golf.
