ASU Appoints Gervasoni To Women's Basketball Staff

June 13, 2000

TEMPE, Ariz. - Kim Gervasoni has been hired as an assistant women's basketball coach, Arizona State head coach Charli Turner Thorne announced Tuesday.

"I recruited Kim to ASU because she is a perfect complement to Mark Lewis, Laura Hughes and myself," Turner Thorne said. "She is an intense and focused coach who knows what it takes to be successful. Having been a successful head coach for eight years, she has tremendous experience in both the on-court and off-court components of college basketball. I am ecstatic to have her on my staff."

Gervasoni spent the past eight seasons as head women's basketball coach at Solano Community College in Suisun, Calif. In eight years, she compiled a career record of 207-77 (.729) and led her team to five Bay Valley Conference championships and three appearances in the California State Championships. A 1997 inductee into the California Community College Hall of Fame, Gervasoni was a three-time Bay Valley Conference Coach of the Year.

In 1995-96, Gervasoni had one of the best seasons of her coaching career when she led her team to a 32-4 record, the Bay Valley Conference title and an appearance in the semifinals of the California State Championships. She garnered a number of regional and national awards that season including California Coaches Association, California Community College, District 8 Junior College and Budget Rent A Car Coach of the Year accolades.

Prior to her time at Solano, Gervasoni spent two seasons as an assistant coach at De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif., and a year as head JV and assistant varsity women's basketball coach at James Logan High School in Union City, Calif. In 1992, she was inducted into the De Anza College Hall of Fame. In addition to her coaching experience, Gervasoni also worked as a physical education and health instructor at Solano Community College and at a number of school districts in California.

Gervasoni started her playing career at De Anza College and then spent two seasons at California State University-Fresno. She earned her bachelor's degree from CSU-Fresno in physical education with an emphasis in exercise physiology in 1988 and her master's degree in physical education from California State University-Hayward in 1991.
