Men's Golf Wins Las Vegas Intercollegiate

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The fourth-ranked Arizona State men's golf team won a two-hole playoff against No. 6 Oklahoma State and Minnesota Sunday to capture the Las Vegas Intercollegiate held at the par 72, 7,193-yard Desert Inn Country Club March 10-12.

The Sun Devils shot a six-under 282 in the final round for a three-day total of 848 (285-281-282) to come back from a nine-stroke deficit to win the tournament which featured three of the nation's top five teams and 11 of the top 25. ASU's final round was the second-best of the day, just one stroke behind Minnesota's 281.

Junior Paul Casey finished in a tie for third place with Oklahoma State's Charles Howell (69-69-70) to lead the Sun Devils with a six-under 208, just one stroke off the lead of Clemson's D.J. Trahan and Texas's Matt Brost who tied for first at 207. Trahan captured the tournament title in a three-hole playoff.

Sophomore Matt Jones finished sixth with a six-under 210, while junior Jeff Quinney took 19th with a two-under 214. Rounding out the Sun Devil scorers were junior Jin Park who finished in a tie for 23rd and senior Jonas Runnquist who tied for 61st.

The victory is the second straight for the Sun Devil team which captured the USC Southwestern Classic title Feb. 28-29.
