SEATTLE, Wash. - Arizona State sophomore Paul Casey shot a collegiate record score of 60 in the final round of the 1999 Pac-10 Championships, to defeat. Stanford's Joel Kribel by two strokes for his second consecutive Pac-10 individual title at the Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle, Wash. Arizona State won its fifth straight Pac-10 team title, defeating second-place UCLA by 21 strokes.

Casey's 60 surpasses Tiger Woods' 61 at the 1996 Pac-10 Championships as the lowest round in NCAA history. It comes just 10 days after teammate Jeff Quinney fired an ASU record 62 in the final round of the ASU Thunderbird/SAVANE Invitational at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe. Woods' score of 61 came on a par 72 while Casey's came on a par 70.

"Paul and Jeff are really feeding off each other right now," said ASU head coach Randy Lein. "They are both fierce competitors and are making everyone else play exceptionally well. It was a tough course in some tough conditions. Paul got hot last year at the end of the season and history is reapeating itself."

Casey won last year's Pac-10 title after coming back from a nine-stroke deficit on the final day. He trailed Kribel by eight strokes coming into today's final round.

"I was on a roll," said Casey, who birdied six straight holes. "The plan was to shoot a 65 and maybe tie the Pac-10 record. I didn't have any pressure on me. I rolled some real good putts and got lucky on some. It was familiar to me because of what happened last year. The team is playing solid and we're looking forward to the NCAAs."

Casey's four-round total of 265 is a Pac-10 Championship record. Woods' holds the conference mark for strokes under par with an 18-under score of 270 in 1996. Casey's mark was 15-under par.

Meanwhile, ASU senior Greg Padilla finished in a tie for sixth at 2-over 282, Quinney (So.) finished in a tie for 12th with a four-over 284, junior Jonas Runnquist finished in a tie for 20th at 10-over 290, sophomore Jin Park fired an 11-over 291 to finish in a tie for 23rd, and freshman Matt Jones placed 44th with a 19-over 299.

ASU's team total of 1403 was three-over par. UCLA finished 24-over par at 1424.
