ASU Wins Slugfest with Wildcats, 16-13

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The 10th-ranked Arizona State baseball team (32-15, 18-7 Six-Pac) defeated the Arizon Wildcats (30-20, 10-15)) 16-13 in front of a crowd of 2,817 at Packard Stadium.

For the Sun Devils offensively, designated hitter Casey Myers went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. Second baseman Willie Bloomquist had a 3-for-4 outing while scoring four runs and driving in one. Bloomquist hit his ninth triple of the season. Andrew Beinbrink also contributed for Arizona State, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Jeff Phelps drove in three runs with two hits in five at bats. Richy Leon (3-0) picked up the win for the Devils going five-plus innings and allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits. Leon also struck out five batters. Reliever Robby Milner picked up his first save of the season for the Sun Devils.

Arizona's offense was led by second baseman Eric Mattern who had two hits, both home runs. Mattern finished the night 2-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. Catcher Greg Clark had a 4-for-5 outing with two RBI and three runs scored. Clark belted his 13th homer of the season. Colin Porter went 2-for-4 on the evening while scoring two runs and driving in two. Starting pitcher for the Wildcats, Tony Milo (7-5), picked up the loss. Milo gave up nine earned runs on seven hits and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
