TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior outside hitter Amanda Burbridge paced the Arizona State volleyball team with 16 kills in a 3-0 loss to No. 20 Loyola Marymount in the final match of the Airport Hilton/Sun Devil Challenge being held at Wells Fargo Arena. Game scores were 1-15, 5-15, 9-15.
Freshman outside hitter Jami Coughlin contributed eight kills and 10 digs to the effort while junior setter Jolynn Faatulu had 30 assists, one block solo and one block assists.
The Lions were led by outside hitter Sarah McFarland who notched 12 kills, three service aces, nine digs and four block assists. Setter Jeannette Hecker added five kills, 28 assists, eight digs and three block assists. LMU hit .340 for the match as a team and outblocked the Devils 12 to seven.
Faatulu and Coughlin were named to the all-tournament team along with LMU's Hecker and Cindy Weglarz and George Washington's Tai Bethune. LMU's McFarland was honored as tournament MVP.
Arizona State next travels to Hawaii for the Wahine Volleyball Challenge September 10-12, hosted by the University of Hawaii.
