TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State men's tennis team failed to advance past the round of 16 in singles play, as four of the five players lost in the opening round of the Pacific-10 Championship in Ojai, California.
Sophomore Alex Osterrieth was the lone Sun Devil winner in the first-round, defeating Washington's Marius Lunde, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Osterrieth, a 23-game winner for ASU, was then defeated in the round of 16 by Stanford's Paul Goldstein, who is ranked 28th in the country, 6-4, 6-2.
In an upset, UCLA's Alex Decret defeated ASU's top-player Gustavo Marcaccio, 6-2, 6-4.
Arizona State has two double's teams remaining, comprised of the four singles players, that will compete today in opening round action.
