OKLAHOMA RELIEF DRIVE
Sun Devil Athletics will partner with the Red Cross and other Athletic Departments around the country to help aid those affected by the weather storms that passed through Oklahoma this past week. A relief drive will open in the Carson Student Athlete Center starting Thursday on the first floor as well as at the front gate of Farrington Stadium on Saturday and Sunday during the NCAA Super Regional games. We will be collecting monetary donations, canned goods, non-perishable food and baby formula to assist the relief effort.

The ticket office in the football stadium will be open Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For those who have prepurchased tickets you may pick them up early at the football stadium on Saturday during that time.

The Sun Devils moved quickly through the Tempe Regional due in large part to the pitching by Dallas Escobedo and the clean defense behind her. Escobedo hasn't allowed an earned run since May 9 and is on a current 31-consecutive inning streak without an earned run. During the Tempe Regional, the ace went 3-0 and had two shutouts, ASU's first postseason no-hitter and kept batters to a .060 average over the weekend.

Depth has played a key roll for ASU down the stretch - the team also sports a second ace in Mackenzie Popescue. ASU's second junior pitcher holds her own with a 2.03 ERA, 19-6 record and five shutouts of her own in 31 appearances. The duo has fared well all season and combined have gone 25-8 against 2013 postseason qualifier teams (excluding Regional games). Both Popescue (10-4; 81.0 inn) and Escobedo (15-4; 135.2 inn) have logged extensive time against the tournament field.

Against Kentucky this season, Escobedo came out of that matchup with a win through seven innings and eight strikeouts. The series is tied 1-1 all-time between the two programs, both under Clint Myers' watch. Box score, here, from Feb. 9, 2013.

In the postseason, Bailey Wigness is leading the team at the plate with a .667 batting average after tallying four hits in the postseason opener, her first career triple and two runs scored. Three individuals have three hits and another three with a pair of hits through the postseason thus far. Pac-12 Player of the Year Amber Freeman is 3-for-3 with a team-best two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored.

Kentucky (41-19) battled through its home NCAA Regional (3-1) to make it to Supers. The Wildcats are on a one-game winning streak after slipping past Virginia Tech 1-0 in an if-necessary game last Sunday. UK beat Marshall 2-1 (8) in the opening round then took another win 6-2 off VT. From there they dropped their sole loss in the postseason, 2-0, before taking the Regional Championship from the Hokies.

The Wildcats are making their fifth appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament and their second Super Regional in schools history. Kentucky's team is led by freshman pitcher Kelsey Nunley who has pitched their entire postseason run (3-1) with a 0.83 ERA.
