Softball Falls to #7 Cal 4-1

May 6, 2006

, - Even with Katie Burkhart's four flawless innings on the mound and Mindy Cowles hitting her 14th home run of the season, the #6 Sun Devil Softball team was topped by #7 , 4-1 Saturday night in at Farrington Stadium. The Sun Devils are now 43-11 overall with a 7-8 conference record while improves to 41-11 and 9-8 in the Pac-10.

Desiree Serrano started on the mound for ASU and pitched two perfect innings before the Bears offense clicked into place as they rallied off all four of their runs in the third after Lindsay James was hit by a pitch and was brought home by a single from Alex Sutton, who was brought home on the next play due a Sun Devil error that placed a runner on first. With a runner on first and two outs, third-baseman Katie Vickers dug in to put one over the left field wall and put up 4-0.

The Sun Devil offense was flat tonight though as they were only able to get three hits off the Bears, with the highlight of the night coming in the sixth inning as Mindy Cowles put a solo shot over the left field fence to give the Devils their only run of the game.

The loss puts ASU at 43-11 on the season and 7-8 in conference play on the season as they return to action tomorrow afternoon as they face off against at Farrington Stadium in at 1 p.m.
