WALNUT CREEK, Calif.—Headlined by Arizona State junior Joanna Smith, the Pac-12 announced its women’s tennis All-Academic team, Thursday. Sun Devil women’s tennis placed a total of four athletes on the 2014 team.
Smith, a double major in Psychology and Family & Human Development in Barrett, the Honors College, earned first team honors with a 3.81 GPA. The junior, along with freshman partner Kassidy Jump, won the Pac-12 Invitational Doubles Championship this spring at the conference tournament.
Also earning conference honors, junior Leighann Sahagun and sophomores Ebony Panoho and Stephanie Vlad were named to the honorable mention team. Under head coach Sheila McInerney, tennis has been a staple in academic excellence for Sun Devil Athletics. Since the inception of the NCAA APR metric, McInerney’s squad has recorded a perfect-1000 rating for 10-consecutive years.
