CAREER NOTES
  • Olivia Nguyen, who will be playing a fifth year for the Sun Devil soccer team in 2022, went from playing in 24 games her first two seasons to starting 35 of her 37 games her junior and senior seasons. 
  • In 2020, Olivia scored four goals and handed out five assists to account for 13 points as her contributions helped the Sun Devils reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014. 
  • As a senior in 2021, Nguyen had single-season career highs in goals (seven), points (17) and game-winning goals (three). She finished second on the team in all three categories. Only Nicole Douglas, the nation’s top goal scorer in 2021, finished with more goals and points than Nguyen.
  • Away from the pitch, Nguyen earned her undergraduate degree in biological sciences with a minor in Sustainability in in May 2022 and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Biology. 
  • She chose to complete her Barrett honors thesis by volunteering in research labs. Olivia’s ultimate academic goal is to follow a 4+1 accelerated bachelor’s and master’s degree program and expand her thesis.  
 2021 (SENIOR)
  • Played in all 20 contests with 19 starts and put half of her shots on frame (17/34).
  • Had single-season career highs in goals (seven), points (17) and game-winning goals (three). She finished second on the team in all three categories. Only Nicole Douglas, the nation’s top goal scorer in 2021, finished with more goals and points than Nguyen.
  • Opened the season with three goals in two games, scoring one in season opener vs. Central Arkansas and followed that by scoring both of ASU’s goals in just under 11 minutes, including the game winner in the 90th minute in ASU’s 2-1 win over NCAA Tournament participant Southeastern Louisiana.
  • Closed the season strong by scoring a goal in each of ASU final two home games: wins over Colorado (Oct. 28) and vs. Utah (Oct. 31).
 2020 (JUNIOR, Played in Spring 2021)
  • Appeared in all 17 games, starting 16 and totaling 1291 minutes.
  • Scored the first goal of her collegiate career against UTEP (Feb. 4).
  • Scored two goals against Grand Canyon (Feb. 14).
  • Finished the season with four goals, five assists and 13 points. 
  • Collected two game-winning goals, second-most on the Sun Devil squad
2019 (SOPHOMORE)
  • Made an appearance in eight non-conference matches
  • Carded two shots on goal in a victory over Weber State (9/1)
2018 (FRESHMAN) 
  • Played in 10 games during her first season as a Sun Devil, including making one start on the year. 
  • Recorded a pair of shots on the season. 
  • Is a dangerous attacker with the ball at her feet, and will look to be a force for the Sun Devils through the midfield during the 2019 season.
PRIOR TO ASU
  • Nguyen, a four-year varsity starter at Corona Del Sol High School, decided to stay in the Valley and pursue her collegiate career at Arizona State. 
  • Nguyen, a versatile midfielder, was named Offensive Player of the Year, All-City First Team and All State Second Team honors during her high school playing career. 
  • In just her first year of high school soccer, Nguyen scored the most points for Freshman in Division 1 with 15 goals and 14 assists, an effort she followed by earning All City First Team, All-City First Team, All State First Team, Offensive Conference Player of the Year honors.
  • As a senior, Nguyen was named East Valley Tribune Player of the Year following a season where she broke the school record for most points scored in a single season with 75 points. 
Personal: Nguyen earned her undergraduate degree in biological sciences with a minor in Sustainability in in May 2022 and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Biology... The youngest of three, Nguyen cited The Barrett Honors College, playing in the Pac-12, the welcoming atmosphere of the campus, and being close to home as things that drew her to ASU.
