QUOTES: ASU, City of Phoenix Partner For Move To Phoenix Municipal Stadium

April 23, 2013

Emcee Jeff Munn
"As a sports fan, the roots and soul of Phoenix, a lot of it, is right here. Not just this stadium, but also that uniform. I'm excited to come out and bringing this stadium and that uniform together. We welcome you here for this morning's celebration, which is sure to be an historic one for the storied program of baseball at Arizona State, as we take the next step towards the future of Sun Devil Baseball."

Mayor Greg Stanton
"It is great to be here at this legendary ballpark, Phoenix Municipal Stadium, right here in the heart of Papago Park. This is a great stadium for baseball. Today is a continuing celebration of the partnership between the City of Phoenix and Arizona State University. I look forward to this program, and I can't wait until 2015 and sitting in the stands watching outstanding collegiate baseball.

Dr. Michael Crow
"I'm very excited about the future of ASU baseball and this opportunity. This facility will be Sun Devil Baseball; it will be branded and marked. We're proud to be part of Phoenix's commitment to the broader community. Our relationship with Phoenix is an all in relationship. We're a partner with the city for all things. We're excited to be here and to be a part of this stadium."

Councilman Sal DiCiccio
"As an ASU alumnus, I want to welcome ASU back home. ASU used to play here many years ago. We get to come up here and talk and congratulate, but the bottom line is projects like this do not get done unless a lot of people really work hard. These were not easy discussions or negotiations, but we're able to get a win for the city, for ASU, for the region and for the community around here."

Vice President of Athletics Steve Patterson
"We're really excited to move into an upgraded facility. I see this as a reward for the tremendous success our club has had over the past years. We're going to be working on a number of upgrades as we move in here. We look forward to 25 years here and all of the success."

Head Coach Tim Esmay
"This is really exciting for all of us. We've talked about the city of Phoenix and President Crow and Steve Patterson and all the intricacies that worked to make this thing happen. Our players aren't going to have anything less than what they've had at Packard. We can do a lot of different things here that we haven't even been able to do at Packard. This is a step forward in not only 8,000 people being able to come here and watch, but the inner workings for our guys are incredible. This is going to separate us even more on the West Coast than we have done in the past. Thanks again, and welcome to the home of Sun Devil Baseball in 2015.
