Postgame Quotes

February 6, 1999

Quoting ASU Head Coach Charli Turner Thorne:
"This truly puts us over the hump. Washington is a top-5 team in the Pac-10, and it's time for us to start beating these teams. I think we believe in ourselves, but it's one thing just to say it and it's another to do it. We did it and I think from here on out we're really going to believe that we can win."

"We were fortunate that they (Washington) missed their free throws. I saw that Arizona had taken a lot of free throws against them and that we would have to be ready to shoot free throws. To have Nat (Tucker), Shelly (Tom) and Theresa (Jantzen) on the line, I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have."

"During my pregame talk I told them that I know I'm supposed to lead them and inspire them, but tomorrow or Monday I'm going to give birth, so I asked them to go out there and inspire me. After the game I went back in and told them that they had inspired me and now I'm ready to push."

Quoting Washington Head Coach June Daugherty:

"Michelle Tom was obviously the shot of the game. I was really impressed with (Theresa) Jantzen and (Leaf) Newman. I thought they played so much better here than when we met them the first time. The other thing is, (Natalie) Tucker was just so tough down the stretch, especially with her free throw shooting."

"I thought we played hard enough to win the game in regulation. I thought we had momentum in the first couple possessions in overtime. Unfortunately for us, free throws were a huge difference only making 8 of 21 and again credit to Arizona State for making their shots (20 of 24).

"We really bared down defensively. I thought our 2-3 match-up confused them a little bit and we were able to get some steals. Amber Hall did a great job in the 2-3. When we went man-to-man, Malinda Lynch came up with some huge steals and deflections to get the ball going the other way."

Quoting Washington player Molly Hills:

"I think the way we came back showed that we are maturing and growing as a team, and that was a positive thing to bring out of this game."
